Camping!

We had our annual community group camp out this weekend. It was Carter's first time camping (the last 3 years we left him with family) and he did great! He and Caleb slept in the tent overnight and Carter had a hard time going to sleep (wanted to play but so tired from no nap) but slept 11 hours! I took Isaac back and slept at Nana and Papas house...the other ladies joined me and that's definitely my type of camping :). Unfortunately didn't take enough pics but here are some:

Many faces of Isaac

Love that his sweet little personality is starting to show in his facial expressions! He is still pretty laid back but can definitely turn super red when he's hungry or sleepy. Here are some Isaac faces captured via phone, mostly happy...I need to work on capturing the red face :)

How a few hours changes everything...

As we all know, just a few hours after my last post the tragic bombing occurred. All the excitement of the day abruptly turned to shock and despair. Being in Boston that day was surreal. Going on the streets that night and the next day...,it was such a somber atmosphere. Caleb wearing his blue marathon jacket and people stopping him asking if he ran the marathon and when he said yes the response was "I'm sorry".

Thankfully, he finished almost 2 hours prior to the bombing and we were both safely back at the hotel when the bombs went off. He had a good race and really got to experience the full Boston race experience with a PR of 3:02 (a 6:59 split...yeah, he's super fast!). We did make the most of our time and saw a few more sights before we headed back to Dallas. It's a trip we will not forget, for so many reasons. Caleb did qualify to go back...he says its too soon to make that call. I would love to go back as a spectator :).

We're thankful for the Lords provision over us and I was so thankful to be home with all 4 of us under the same roof.

Marathon Monday

I'm sitting here at the hotel, Venti starbucks in hand and Isaac peacefully sleeping away in the big swing. Oh yes, we did find a baby rental company that brought a big swing to our hotel room (genius business idea--we paid $55 for a $90 swing for 4 days but oh so worth it). We sent Caleb off about an hour ago to load the buses down to the start.

I'm so proud of him. He has worked so hard for this day. His goal for NY was to qualify for Boston....and he did with a time of 3:09 which qualified him for a race that was already full and lo and behold qualifying time was changed to sub 3:05. Back at the grind. He worked hard and qualified in a miserable rainy Dallas in 2011 for today. Since then the man has been so disciplined. He gets up at 5 am 6 mornings a week to run. The freezing cold or muggy warm Dallas weather doesn't stop him. He gets up that early not because he runs for 3 hours every morning. He gets up that early so that he can be home for our morning breakfast date at 645 and then spend a good 45 mins with Carter before leaving for work. What a family man :).

So, no matter what happens today I hope he has the time of his life. The oldest and most prestigious marathon is literally at his footsteps today. He's earned it. And thankfully I married the awesome athlete of a man so I can sit here in my pjs and drink coffee and watch the Today show before trotting off to visit Harvard before catching him at mile 21!

So glad I joined him. Isaac is doing awesome and enjoying the sights of Boston right along with us. Here are some pics from the trusty phone this far:

Isaac-2 months

Stats to come after appt Monday!

Size 1 diapers, 3 mos clothes

EAT
Still consistently eating every 3ish hours from 7a-7p. Will sometimes cluster feed at night. Nurses most of the time but will usually get a 3-3.5 oz bottle atleast once a day. I pump every morning about an hour after first am feed for comfort/stashing.

PLAY
Discovered his reflection and loves to look at himself. Started smiling at 6 weeks but still won't consistently smile with interaction...but pretty consistent with looking in mirror :). Will tolerate a good 5 mins of tummy time before fussing. He loves being held but after being swaddled all night loves a good 15-20 mins in the mornings to stretch on his playmat. I'm loving the ergo and in the last month he's been worn to parks, walks, the arboretum, and Perot museum! He is also in the ergo a lot in the evenings...helps me cook, clean, do laundry, etc! His favorite "toy" hands down is the big swing...

SLEEP
...which brings us to this section. He will give me a 6-8 hour stretch if he goes down in the big swing. If he goes down in the crib he will typically wake up every 15 mins for the first hour and once he's finally down give a 3-4 hour stretch. I was weary of swing sleeping for a long time but after consulting with other Moms and a sweet hubby who says a Mommy who gets sleep is key for the whole family, I'm hoping Im not creating a monster bc he definitely naps and does his first night stretch in the swing. After he wakes up around 3-4 ill take him to his crib and hell sleep until 7-730. During the day he's awake about 1.5-2 hours at a time. He takes a long nap 1-4ish and shorter 45-1.5 hr naps in between. He is still swaddled at night and about 1/2 the time for naps.

Sweet Isaac,
You are already fighting the snuggles and lifting up your head when I try to snuggle you on my shoulder. You no longer like to be held to fall asleep but you do love to be held and just stare at whoever is holding you. You love to be outside and watch whatever is going on around you. You can't quite figure out your brothers antics but are learning to sleep through lots of banging and screaming :). I love our alone time first thing in the morning and when your brother goes down for nap. We also get good bonding time with Daddy at night...he's been teaching you about March Madness! You are my little cuddle bug and wish I could stop time...you're growing so fast but I also can't wait to discover more of your personality!

Love
Mama
