Camping!

I decided to embrace being a boy mom and said yes to tent camping. All 5 of us. With a forecast of storms. So glad I did. I want to work on saying yes more. Yes to more memories and bonding!

The boys fell asleep driving down which meant they wanted to tent wrestle instead of sleep Friday night . Aunt Connie and David kept us company while we set up camp. We did s'mores and explored our site before calling it a night. Everyone slept great (after going to sleep at 10!) and we were up at 6 am to start the day! We learned to move the cooler in the car at night, as a racoon snuck our bacon out of our cooler during the night :).

On Saturday we had coffee, pancakes, and eggs for breakfast then spent the day enjoying nature. We picked flowers, created swords out of sticks, threw rocks in the water, sat our chairs by the lake and looked for boats....just enjoyed being. This was hardest for Carter, he's very much a do-er. Isaac is more of my free spirit and loved the unstructured playtime in nature. B was happy to be held and be outside all day!! Nana and Papa came out and played for a couple of hours (and brought bacon!), it was nice to have company! We went on a family hike and then saw a storm coming in so came back to camp. Although rain was forecasted most of the day, it held off but was cloudy=perfect camping weather! We did head to the tent to wait out a quick, but intense storm. The rain fly held, the storm passed, kids thought it was fun to tackle in the tent and it was quick. Came back out to clear skies so Caleb made a fire and we had hot dogs and another round of s'mores! Caleb made a great fire but it had nothing on the storms. We got ready for bed and the rain started. And didn't stop! It was a night of storms, lots of wind and thunder and lightning. The boys did awesome! Mama, not so much. Let's just say it's a good thing I didn't know a tornado warning was issued or we would have left all our camping gear to charity and high tailed it out of there. But we didn't. And Caleb gave me lots of grace, and we survived. Really, with all the lightning and the tent closing in on us with the winds, I am shocked the boys stayed sleeping! I told Caleb I felt like I was Jesus' disciples thinking we were going to die...and in this case, Caleb was like Jesus...no worry at all. Except he isn't God and can't calm the storm. So I just prayed all night God would protect us, and He did. Praise Him!

I'm embracing being a camping family.

6 mos

Sweet baby Brooksie,
We are pretty much inseparable these days and I'm loving it. You refuse to sleep in your car seat and hate the ergo but are do happy in Mamas arms! You eat every 3ish hours (mostly nurse but 6 oz bottle) and are starting baby led weaning. You are putting everything in your mouth and still love your left thumb. You squeal with delight and have started babbling. You love the pool, splashing in the water, and watching your brothers. You smile at anyone who smiles at you and are generally happy unless you are hungry or tired. You are the "dream baby" at the Y and they ask me if you ever cry :). Oh you have my heart and although I love you growing, know you will always be my baby Brooks.

Ahh, summertime! Part 1

Isaac these days

Love love love him right now . Wish I could just bottle him up and keep him this way forever. Of course he can drive me crazy when he walks in my room at 230 am...but then says "hi Mommy sauce!" With the biggest grin thinking it's time to wake up...and I can't help but smile and take his little hand in my 3 fingers back upstairs. And then he says "no mommy move it coy box". Oh how he's traumatized when I move the toy box because he can no longer use a book to flip the latch lock at the top of the door.

Some of my favorite Isaac-isms right now
Cry me=ice cream
Bell bell= belly
Car car=Carter
Yo yo= yogurt

He is so rough and tumble but also my biggest cuddler. Loves to be held, have his back rubbed, or fingers run through his hair. He needs alone time but loves being part of the group. He is very curious and a "noticer"...notices the smallest things, a stop to the smell the roses kiddo. He doesn't need much sleep, I love and hate this.

I adore him right now. He has my heart.

Carter's trip to dentist

So we didn't pay for dental insurance for the kiddos so I took Carter to a neighborhood dentist that advertised a $19 special for X-rays/cleaning/exam for patients with no insurance. My expectations were super low and Caleb made me promise to call him before I let them give carter a silver grill ("because that's how these places make their money"-Caleb)  so we were pleasantly surprised. Not only did carter get a clean check up with no cavities, but both bigs left with atleast $19 in goodies--new toothbrushes, paste, floss, sunglasses, rubber light balls, and it goes on! Isaac did not want to see the "tooth doc doc" but was happy to watch curious George on PBS while Carter hammed it up with the dentist and hygienist. Brooks was super happy to be held and watch his brothers/the lights. 3 kids 4&under at dentist was a surprising success! And total bill was $19.44 and NO grill!! Woo hoo!
